A recent trade rumors could see a massive deal between the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals taking place involving Addison Barger and Carlos Estevez..
A new trade pitch has Toronto calling the Kansas City Royals for Estevez, while sending out Yimi Garcia, Brendon Little, and Barger. It's framed as a late-inning fix after a quiet winter.

The logic starts with urgency, because Toronto just watched Seranthony Dominguez walk in free agency. When a contender loses leverage innings, every «get a closer» idea suddenly sounds reasonable.
Addison Barger trade talk meets Carlos Estévez fit
Barger is the real pain point in this proposal, because his first full season was useful and loud. He hit .243 with 21 homers, 74 RBIs, and a .755 OPS, and he did it at age 26.
Toronto can argue playing time is crowded, but that is exactly why Barger still matters.
Cost-controlled power is how you survive a long summer when two starters miss time and the bench gets exposed.
Garcia's inclusion is what makes it feel like a gut-punch trade, not a clean upgrade.
He's 35 and experienced, but he has also been part of Toronto's leverage mix for years, and that stability is hard to replace.
On the other side, Estévez is not a rental you hide, he is paid like a real late-inning arm. Spotrac lists a $10.1 million salary for 2026, so Toronto would be buying immediate pressure along with the innings.
My opinion, this only makes sense if Toronto believes Barger is truly blocked and Garcia is truly surplus, and I don't buy either premise.
