Blue Jays clobber the Rays after an offensive resurgence

Published March 31, 2024 at 6:45 PM

After two losses in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays were looking for a huge win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Thanks to their bats, the team was able to come through with a massive blowout victory.

On Opening Day, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, and Cavan Biggio hit home runs to propel the Jays to an 8-2 victory. Overall, it was a massive win that had fans fantasizing about a season filled with incredible offense. Unfortunately, on Friday and Saturday, the Jays were only able to manage three runs in two games. However, on Sunday, the Blue Jays clobbered the Rays by a score of 9-2.

Offensively, this game was highlighted by Justin Turner who hit his first home run as a member of the Jays. Additionally, he had four RBI, three hits, and two runs. It was an incredible performance by the 39-year-old, and fans will be eager to see him repeat this performance soon. Meanwhile, Davis Schneider also had a home run, with two RBI to boot.

"COMPLETE team win! FINAL: #BlueJays 9, Rays 2"

Kevin Gausman started the game for the Blue Jays, and he was solid in his debut. He gave up two hits and a run in just over four innings of action. From there, he was able to get six strikeouts, in what was a defensive outing that the Blue Jays were in desperate need of. Chad Green finished off the game for the Jays where he gave up a run in the top of the ninth. By then, it was too little and too late for the Rays to come back.

Tomorrow, the Toronto Blue Jays will be back in action against the Houston Astros. This will be their first game of a three-match series. They will play from Monday until Wednesday. On Thursday, the Blue Jays will finally get their first day off of the season. As for Monday's game, it will begin at 8:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
