Ryan Mountcastle is a familiar name for the Blue Jays, and he could make sense as a DH target.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire career with Baltimore since his age-23 season in 2020, giving Toronto plenty of history against him as a division rival.
Injuries have limited him to just eight games this season, dealing with a foot issue that's kept him out since, with a return targeted for around Sept. 21.
But his track record at Rogers Centre specifically stands out. In 27 games there, Mountcastle has hit seven home runs with 23 RBIs, slashing .279 with a .558 slugging mark and a .279 ISO.
That's a real sample of production against Toronto's own ballpark dimensions, not just a small blip.
The fit isn't perfectly clean, though. Mountcastle is a right-handed hitting first baseman, and Toronto already has an expensive cornerstone there in Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
That positional overlap is the obvious hurdle in any potential move.

George Springer looks set to vacate a big chunk of the designated hitter at-bats he's occupied for Toronto this season.
That opens a real path for a right-handed bat like Mountcastle to slide into a DH-heavy role instead of competing directly with Guerrero at first.
Toronto's lineup has needed more thump for most of this season, and Mountcastle's power profile at Rogers Centre specifically checks that box.
The price would need to make sense given his recent injury history and limited games played this year.
A team dealing with a first baseman already locked in doesn't usually chase another one, but a DH-focused role changes that calculation entirely.
Whether Baltimore would even consider moving him, or Toronto's front office pursues this seriously, is speculation at this point rather than anything close to a real transaction.
Still, the fit on paper, especially with Springer's DH at-bats up for grabs, makes Mountcastle a name worth watching as the offseason approaches.
