Ernie Clement shifts to shortstop for John Schneider as the Blue Jays try to bounce back against Seattle without Andrés Giménez.

Nathan Lukes stays in RF and leads off, which tells you the Blue Jays still want the same table-setting look at the top. They need traffic early after a flat night.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. returns to 1B and hits 2nd, which puts the game in his hands fast. Toronto is clearly trying to get its best bat involved before Seattle can settle in.
Kazuma Okamoto stays in the premium run-producing lane at 3B. Batting 3rd keeps him tied directly to Guerrero, and that gives the Blue Jays their cleanest middle-order path.
Alejandro Kirk moves into the cleanup spot, and that is one of the more telling choices here. Toronto wants a steadier at-bat in the heart of the order with Giménez unavailable.
Daulton Varsho follows in CF, which gives the lineup another threat with some edge. The Blue Jays are trying to keep enough impact in the first 5 spots to avoid leaning on one bat.
Toronto reshapes the infield around Andrés Giménez's absence
Clement is the biggest adjustment. He slides to SS, and that matters because Toronto is asking him to cover more defensively while still helping the lineup from the 6-hole.
Sean Keys at DH is another real part of the bounce-back plan. The Blue Jays are not hiding him low in the order; they want his bat to help carry the middle-to-lower third.
Luis Urias gets 2B with Giménez out, and that is where the lineup starts showing its patchwork side. Toronto now needs useful innings from a fill-in spot, not just survival.
Yohendrick Piñango in LF rounds out the card, and his presence gives the Blue Jays one more bat that can change the look of the inning if the top half gets something started.
On the mound, Trey Yesavage gets the ball, so the lineup's job is obvious. Toronto needs to score early enough to let a young starter work without chasing the game.
That is why the Giménez absence matters beyond one missing name. It pushes Clement across the dirt, forces Urias into the mix, and asks the lineup to generate more with less defensive stability behind it.
So this card says plenty before first pitch. The Blue Jays are trying to rebound by keeping Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto at the center, trusting Ernie Clement to hold shortstop, and hoping Trey Yesavage gets enough support to make the whole plan work.
