Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer makes worrying comments on his thumb after win last night
The Toronto Blue Jays won once again yesterday with Max Scherzer back on the mound but after the game Scherzer made some worrying comments about his thumb injury.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer speaks on his thumb injury after win against the Angels
Scherzer had a decent game yesterday against the Angels as he pitched 4 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 3 batters and struck out 4.
After the game, Scherzer told reporters that it was not easy for him to make this start as he tried to barely move his hand as he was dealing with a lot of inflammation before the game.
It took a «big push» for Scherzer to make his start today, the righty said. No lifting with his thumb and a compromised bullpen
«dealt with a lot of inflammation and wasn't able to kind of do my normal routines.»
An extra day off before his next start will be huge. #BlueJays
Scherzer stated that getting an extra day off before he makes his next start will be a lot of help and will take some pressure off of his thumb issue.
Max Scherzer says he dealt with «a lot of inflammation» in his thumb after his last start and that he was on a limited pitch count today.
He's optimistic that an extra day of rest will help going into his next start. #BlueJays
This is a bit worrying because if Scherzer is in this much pain after only two starts, the chances that he is able to finish the season and be able to make a difference in playoffs seem very small.
This is a clear sign that the Blue Jays need to go and find a solid starting pitcher to add to the rotation as Scherzer likely does not have much left in him.
