Miguel Rojas, the Dodgers hero who broke Blue Jays hearts in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, announced his retirement Thursday night. He's 37.

The news came after the Brewers beat the Dodgers 6-4. Jake Bauers drove in three, and Aaron Ashby worked the final three innings for the save.

For Toronto, Rojas will always be the guy who wouldn't go away. He delivered twice in the late innings of that Game 7, both times at the Jays' expense.

First came the home run. With Toronto two outs from a title, Rojas tied the game in the ninth with a shot off closer Jeff Hoffman.

Then came the play at the plate. Playing second base with the infield drawn in, he handled Daulton Varsho's grounder and fired home to cut down Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

The clip shows him corralling the ball and throwing a strike to the plate as Kiner-Falefa is called out.

A 1,401-game career ends with two Dodgers rings

Without those two moments, the Blue Jays would have been World Series champions. That's how thin the margin was.

His career was a long road. He signed with the Reds out of Venezuela in 2005, never reached the majors with them, then joined the Dodgers as a free agent in 2012.

He debuted in 2014 before being traded to Miami that December in a deal that sent Austin Barnes and Enrique Hernández to Los Angeles.

The Marlins sent him back to the Dodgers in January 2023 for Jacob Amaya. He played 870 games for Miami and 531 for Los Angeles.

He finishes as a career .260 hitter with 1,048 hits and 61 home runs.

Does his retirement bring Toronto any closure? Not really, because the Jays never got their revenge.

Jays fans should tip their caps anyway. Rojas was a grinder who made the two biggest plays of his life on the biggest stage, and that deserves respect, even through gritted teeth.

He's the backup quarterback who comes off the bench and wins the Super Bowl. Nobody saw it coming, and nobody in the losing city ever forgets his name.

Rojas leaves with two rings. Toronto is left with the question it still can't shake: what if that ball had found a hole?
