Buck Martinez is officially hanging up the headset, but his final verbal haymaker against the New York Yankees will echo forever.

The news hit Toronto like a fastball to the ribs: the voice of summer is retiring.
Martinez (Traded to Toronto, 1981) announced he is stepping away from the booth after a glorious run that ended with Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.
For 16 years, he was the soundtrack to our summers, teaching us the game with his unique "Buck-isms" and unwavering passion.
But before he signed off, he gave Blue Jays fans one last gift during a meaningless September game against the Astros.
He looked at the scoreboard, saw the Yankees losing to Detroit, and unleashed a rant that was pure poetry.

"The Yankees, they’re not a good team. I don’t care what their record is," he growled into the microphone.

He said what every single Blue Jays fan has been thinking for years

It wasn't just a critique; it was a dissection of the "Bronx Bombers" myth.
He called out their sloppy defense, their wild pitches, and their inability to manufacture runs without the long ball.
"If they don't hit home runs, they don't have a chance to win," he added, twisting the knife.
It was the perfect "get off my lawn" moment from a man who played the game the right way for decades.
Yankees fans were furious, but Buck didn't care because he knew he was right (and the stats backed him up).
That moment perfectly encapsulated why we loved him: he was a homer, sure, but he was our homer who demanded excellence.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and a deep love for the city of Toronto.
Enjoy retirement, Buck—you earned it, and you were absolutely right about the Yankees.
