Buck Martinez states that Toronto Blue Jays Bowden Francis does not have a spot in the starting rotation

Buck Martinez strangely confirmed to Dan Shulman that Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis does that have a secured spot in the starting rotation next season and will have to earn it in Spring Training.
Francis had an unbelievable season in 2024 that most fans did not see coming, despite a slow start, Francis had an amazing ending to his year coming close to a no hitter on three separate occasions.
Buck Martinez states that Bowden Francis will need to earn his spot in the starting rotation next season
Most fan believed that with how Francis was playing at the end of the season, he will surely be part of the Blue Jays starting rotation next season as he was their best pitcher in the second half of the season.
Martinez stated that regardless of how he played last season, Francis will need to earn his spot on the starting rotation in 2025 during Spring Training and if he fails to impress, he will return to the bullpen.
Bowden had a terrific finish to the season. In his last eight starts, he had a 1.33 ERA with batters hitting .116. In one of those last starts, Dan asked Buck if Francis had earned a spot in the rotation next season, and Buck said no, that he had to earn it in spring training. I don't understand that; someone who puts together a stretch of starts like Francis has shown that he should be in the rotation. I can't see that a few spring innings should change that. -Dakers
While most fans do not expect Francis to put up the same numbers he did at the end of last season throughout the entirety of 2025, they expect him to definitely be one of their top pitchers.
It will be interesting to see what happens at Spring Training because starting the year without Francis in the Blue Jays starting rotation would be insanity.
