Dave Roberts is moving Teoscar Hernández ahead of Will Smith in the Dodgers' order for Game 2. The former Blue Jays star earned it on Sunday.
The Brewers took the opener 2-1 in Milwaukee. Hernández was one of the few Dodgers who did anything, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Smith went the other way. The catcher finished 0-for-3, though he did draw a walk.
That was enough for Roberts to shuffle the lineup card. The veteran slugger now hits ahead of Smith as Los Angeles tries to even the series.
The offence needs more than a shuffle, though. Andy Pages drove in the only run, and Shohei Ohtani was the lone Dodger to cross the plate.
Jacob Misiorowski kept them quiet early. He allowed one earned run on five hits over 4.1 innings.
Tarik Skubal's loss gives Blue Jays fans a reason to watch
On the other side, Skubal took the loss. He struck out seven over five innings but allowed two earned runs, including a homer to Brice Turang.
That's the ace Toronto will be "involved" with this winter, according to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. One October loss won't change his price.
Milwaukee's bullpen slammed the door. D.L. Hall picked up the win, and Trevor Megill closed it out for the save.
Does moving Hernández up fix anything? It rewards the hottest bat, but one lineup tweak doesn't solve a night where the Dodgers scraped together a single run.
Roberts is right to make the move anyway. Smith has to hit lower when he isn't producing, and Hernández was the only Dodger with a multi-hit night.
October lineup moves are like rearranging chairs before a dinner party. It helps if the right people sit together, but somebody still has to cook.
Kyle Tucker is another name to watch. He drew two walks but struck out twice and went hitless.
Jays fans will be watching for their own reasons. Hernández built his name in Toronto before taking it to Los Angeles, and plenty of them still follow every swing.
Game 2 will set the tone for the rest of the series. If Hernández delivers again from his new spot, Roberts looks sharp, and if not, the Brewers carry all the momentum forward.
