Buddy Kennedy, who briefly wore a Blue Jays uniform, has a new organization.
The Nationals signed him to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Rochester, according to MiLB's official transactions tracker.
This comes days after San Francisco designated him for assignment and then released him outright.
At the big-league level this season, Kennedy has struggled badly. Twenty-five games split between the Giants and Mariners produced zero home runs, one RBI, one double, and a .116 average.
Triple-A has been a completely different story. In 48 games there, he's hit .321 with eight home runs, 15 doubles, and 33 RBIs.
That gap between his major and minor league numbers explains why Washington is willing to take a low-cost chance on him now.
He'll look to force his way back to a big-league roster before this season wraps up.
How his brief Blue Jays chapter played out
Kennedy's Toronto stint began after Philadelphia designated him for assignment and released him in July of last year.
He signed with the Blue Jays on a minor-league deal and appeared in 27 games with Triple-A Buffalo, hitting .275 with six doubles and nine RBIs there.
That performance earned him a call-up to Toronto in August 2025.
His big-league window with the Blue Jays was brief, just two games, but he made the most of it, hitting a double and driving in a run in that short stint.
It's the kind of small but real chapter that shows up on a résumé without ever becoming a defining stretch.
Now with Washington, Kennedy gets another crack at proving his Triple-A production can translate, even in limited big-league opportunities.
Whether Rochester becomes a launching pad back to the majors or another stop on a well-traveled journeyman path is the next question for him to answer.
Do you think Buddy Kennedy earns another big-league callup with the Nationals this season?
