Former Toronto Blue Jays pitched Genesis Cabrera was DFA'd by the Chicago Cubs yesterday and it looks like his former Blue Jays teammate will be replacing him.
Mariners DFA former Blue Jays pitcher Genesis Cabrera and replace him with Nate Pearson
The Cubs signed
Cabrera as a free agent back in May after he was released by the New York Mets who he signed with in free agency to a minor league contract.
After less than a month with the Cubs, they announced yesterday that they decided to DFA Cabrera due to his poor performance as he had a 8.68 ERA in 9.1 innings with the Cubs.
Génesis Cabrera has been designated for assignment by the Cubs.
He had an 8.68 ERA in 9.1 IP.
The surprising part in all of this is that the Cubs DFA'd
Cabrera to bring up his former Blue Jays teammate Nate Pearson from the minors as he has been doing incredible in Iowa.
The Cubs have promoted RHP Nate Pearson from the
@IowaCubs
. Pearson has been lights out recently.
He's 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA and hasn't allowed an earned run in his last six outings dating back to June 1.
Pearson has a 2.22 ERA in Triple-A this season in 24.2 innings which has led to the call up back to the majors and has yet to give up an earned run in the month on June.
Hopefully this time around goes better for him as his ERA in the majors so far sits at 10.38 in 8.2 innings pitched due to a terrible start earlier in 2025.
