The Savannah Bananas are bringing Banana Ball to Rogers Centre next August, and former Blue Jays outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is coming with them.
The Bananas will play the Indianapolis Clowns on Aug. 14 and 15, 2027. Bradley suits up for the Clowns.
It's the first time the Bananas will play in Canada. Their 2027 tour expands to three countries and more than 75 stadiums.
They're aiming big, too. The Bananas announced they're hoping to draw more than four million fans next season.
Tickets won't be easy. Fans can enter a free online lottery through the Blue Jays website until midnight on Oct. 31.
Winners will be drawn at random and notified by email. Entering doesn't guarantee a ticket.
A $9,500 suite is the only guaranteed way into Banana Ball
If you don't want to leave it to chance, there's one option. Rogers Centre is selling premium suites for groups of 14 or more.
That fits a pattern. The building is already booked for Upper Deck Golf in January, and the Jays have been aggressive about finding new revenue under Mark Shapiro.
Is anyone complaining? Not really, because the Bananas are pure fun, and the demand will be enormous.
This is a good look for Rogers Centre. After a last-place season, giving fans a reason to come downtown for something joyful is smart business and smart PR.
Banana Ball is baseball's version of a street festival. The rules are loose, the music is loud and nobody leaves without a story.
There's an awkward subplot. A possible lockout looms on Dec. 1, and if the labour fight drags on, the Bananas could be one of the few sure things on baseball's 2027 calendar.
Bradley's return should get a warm reception, too. Seeing a former Jay in a Clowns uniform will be a treat for plenty of fans.
The Jays have real baseball problems to fix this winter. For two nights next August, though, Rogers Centre gets to just have fun, and that might be the best thing on the schedule.
