The Toronto Blue Jays are still waiting on pitcher Max Scherzer to recover from his thumb injury and it looks like he is in the final steps of that recovery.
Scherzer has only pitched three innings so far this season after being pulled in his first appearance due to a thumb injury which he has been dealing with since last season.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer likely will pitcher in Florida Complex League this weekend
Scherzer has been pitching more and more at live batters recently and since he has had no problems with his thumb so far it looks like he is set to soon make his return on the mound for the Blue Jays.
Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer threw 40 pitches of live batting practice Tuesday and could pitch in a minor league game this weekend, manager John Schneider said. -Associated Press
Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated that Scherzer is expected pitch either a simulation game or in a Florida Complex League game over the weekend which will be one of the final steps in his recovery.
Schneider said Scherzer is expected to pitch in either a simulated game or a Florida Complex League game on Sunday. The next step would be a minor league rehab assignment. -Associated Press
Getting Scherzer back in the rotation will be huge for the Blue Jays who have been trying to find ways to replace him for the past few months but that has proven quite difficult.
The other part is that Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis has been brutal lately giving them their only loss in their last 10 games in a brutal performance which is why getting Scherzer back soon is so important.
If Scherzer returns with no problems with his thumb, there is a good chance that the Blue Jays look to move Bowden Francis at the trade deadline.
