The Toronto Blue Jays announced yesterday that they have assigned their two most recent first round draft picks Arjun Nimmala to the high A Vancouver Canadians and pitcher prospect Trey Yesavage To the low A Dunedin.

Nimmala had showed great promise when he attended the Blue Jays spring training last month were the 19-year-old shortstop Had seen his production increase after his first full season with Dunedin.

Nimmala looks to be a gem for the Blue Jays

In his first full season of professional baseball, Nimmala slashed .232/.325/.482 over 90 games, slugging 17 homers and stealing nine bases. After a slow start, the 2023 first-rounder was placed on the development list, but came back and saw his production skyrocket.

From his return at the end of June until the end of Dunedin's season, Nimmala posted an .894 OPS and cut his strikeout rate by nearly five percentage points. Sportsnet Staff
Yesavage had shown his skill set when he was named to March Spring breakout game for the Blue Jays when they faced off against the Minnesota Twins prospects.
Yesavage, meanwhile, was 20th overall in last summer's draft but did not latch on in the minor leagues after his college season.

The East Carolina University alum had an 11-1 record for the Pirates last spring, striking out 145 hitters over 93.1 innings while carrying a 2.03 ERA. Sportsnet staff

Blue Jays having strong opening week of the season

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have recovered after their opening day disaster where they lost 12-2 against Baltimore Orioles and have cobbled together a record of 5-2 including a series sweep against the Washington Nationals.
The Blue Jays bats were far more active over the past number of games and the team has been receiving solid pitching from its relief staff which is a major difference for the team compared to last season where they were nearly dead last with their relievers.
Though the season is quite early, the Blue Jays now will face a tougher test over the next couple of weeks as they go on a 10-game road trip where they will face off against strong opponents including the Orioles again, New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox.
The Blue Jays will open their series against the Mets on April 4th in Flushing NY and first pitch will be thrown at 3:10 PM eastern.
