Myles Straw had to pitch again Thursday, and that tells you everything about how bad this loss got.
Kansas City put up two runs in the first, two more in the second, and had four on the board before Toronto even settled in.
Then came the sixth inning, the one nobody in that dugout will want to remember.
Simeon Woods-Richardson took the loss on the chin, charged with six earned runs on five hits in a single inning of work.
Vinnie Pasquantino's two-run homer was part of that carnage, turning a rough night into a full blowout.
Michael Lorenzen at least gave fans something to watch closely, debuting for Toronto hours after signing earlier that same day.
He allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts over two innings, a reasonable first look given the circumstances around him.
Why Schneider let the boos stand without argument
Jac Caglianone put the final dagger in against Straw, who had to be summoned from the outfield to pitch once the game was fully out of hand.
That's not a mistake in the retelling. Toronto's own center fielder pitched in this game.
George Springer supplied the lone bright spot, a two-run homer in the sixth, his 13th of the season and the only runs Toronto managed all night.
The offense finished with eight hits but went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, the same problem that's dogged this lineup for weeks.
MLB's Keegan Matheson reported manager John Schneider's response to the boos raining down from another sellout crowd.
"There's no better fans in the sport. They're entitled to their opinion. When you're getting your ass kicked pretty good, they're allowed to have their opinion. We love their support every night."
Schneider didn't downplay it, didn't defend the performance, and didn't offer a generic line about needing to play better. He just told the truth.
For a fan base that's expected more all season, that kind of honesty from the manager's office might be the only thing that landed right on a night this ugly.
Did John Schneider handle the fan boos the right way after this 13-2 blowout?
