Justin Turner is a Major League Baseball veteran who has had a long and successful career. Although he mostly had his success with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he is now with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he seems to be making an immediate impact.
At 39 years old, there weren't a ton of expectations placed on Turner. Instead, he was mostly seen as a veteran presence who could help out the young guys during big slumps. However, some solid offensive production here and there was always going to be appreciated. After two games in a row where the Blue Jays' bats went cold, fans were practically begging for something positive today. Well, Turner gave fans just that as he came through with his first home run as a Blue Jay. The home run cam against the Tampa Bay Rays, whom the Blue Jays are currently in the midst of a four-game series with.
The Blue Jays actually won the first game of this series by a score of 8-2. Subsequently, they lost the second game 8-2, and the third game, 5-1. Two losses in a row is cause for concern, but some solid offense could certainly get the team back on track. Unfortunately, matters have been made worse as it was announced today that Genesis Cabrera would be suspended three games for his altercation with Jose Caballero.
At the time of writing this, the Blue Jays are up on the Rays by a score of 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth. If the Jays can close this one out, they will improve their record to 2-2. After today's game, they are off to Houston where they will play three games in a row against the Astros.
