Despite the Blue Jays getting off to a great start in 2025 as they lead the American League East, a few players have been off to a tough start including third baseman Ernie Clement.
This is quite the surprise since Clement is coming off an unbelievable 2024 season where he finished with a solid 12 homeruns and 51 RBIs which is why most expected more from him this season.
After all, the 29-year-old third baseman had a breakout season last year that saw him compile a solid .263 average while posting career-bests in games played (139), runs scored (48), doubles (21), triples (3), home runs (12), RBI (51) and stolen bases (12). -Eng
Instead of building off of last year, Clement has hit a massive decline where he is currently one of the Blue Jays worst hitters with a 0.97 batting average in 14 games with a total of 31 at batts.
However, the 2025 season has been a complete disaster for Clement.
In 14 games, he has put up a .097 average with seven strikeouts in 31 at-bats. In fact, Clement has registered just one hit in his last nine games. -Eng
If this situation continues, Clement could find himself being DFA'd then traded since the 29 year old current has no more minor league options left but with his history, a team will surely take a chance on him.
If Clement's situation is history repeat itself, his struggles could end ending his tenure with the club since he doesn't have any minor league options left. -Eng
It will be interesting to see if he steps it up or if he ends up off the Blue Jays roster.
