Simeon Woods Richardson is joining his third organization of the season.
The right-hander signed a minor-league deal with Seattle Wednesday night, getting assigned to Triple-A Tacoma.
Toronto designated him for assignment on Aug. 28, right after he allowed six earned runs across one inning in a 13-2 loss to the Royals.
He was outrighted to Buffalo on Aug. 31, then elected free agency Tuesday before agreeing to terms with Seattle just a day later.
Toronto originally acquired him from the Twins on June 4 for cash considerations.
His first stint with the Blue Jays actually went well. Eight appearances produced a 2-0 record, a 3.93 ERA, and a 1.42 WHIP, with 14 strikeouts across 18.1 innings and a .222 average against.
The bigger picture told a rougher story, though.
Why Seattle might give him another shot at the majors
Combined between Toronto and Minnesota this season, Woods Richardson went 2-7 with a 6.68 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP across 20 games.
Opponents hit .304 off him for the season, and 37 walks in 66 innings show the command issues that eventually pushed him out of Toronto's plans.
A former No. 3-ranked prospect in the Blue Jays system, he still managed a 2-1 record and a 4.07 ERA in six Triple-A appearances with Buffalo this year.
Seattle's rotation is largely set, which likely points Woods Richardson toward a long-relief role instead of a starting job.
Some of the Mariners' lower-leverage bullpen arms have struggled at points this season, opening a real path back to the majors if he pitches well in Tacoma.
Three organizations in one season is a lot of ground to cover for any pitcher, especially one who started the year as part of Toronto's plans.
Whether Tacoma becomes another quick stop or a real launching pad back to a big-league bullpen is the next chapter in a season that's already bounced him around plenty.
