Jake Casey just landed on MLB's Prospect Team of the Week, and the Blue Jays have a real find on their hands.
The outfielder plays for High-A Vancouver, and he earned the honor for his stretch from Aug. 17-23.
Only players ranked among their club's top 30 prospects on Pipeline's list are even eligible for that team.
Casey hit .391 with four home runs and 13 RBIs during that week alone.
He hit safely in all six games in that stretch, and his first seven hits all went for extra bases, including two multi-homer performances.
That surge pushed his season OPS up to .884.
It's a strong follow-up to a rough start to the year. Casey missed two months after breaking his hamate in his season debut, an injury that often saps power for a long stretch afterward.
Why his bloodline and speed make him a name to track
Casey is the son of three-time All-Star Sean Casey, and the left-handed swing carries some of that same promise.
Toronto took him in the 15th round of the 2025 draft out of Kent State, signing him for $150,000 after he became the first player in program history invited to the MLB Draft Combine.
Unlike his father, who stole just 18 bases in his career, the younger Casey brings real speed, enough to earn center-field looks with plus run grades.
He's ranked as Toronto's 26th overall prospect and is hitting .242 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs this season, climbing from Rookie Ball through Single-A to High-A.
None of that changes what's in front of the big-league club right now. Toronto opens a pivotal three-game series against the Royals on Tuesday, with Max Scherzer starting the opener.
"I think we're in a good position right now," Jose Soriano said. "If we keep playing good, I think we can make it."
The Blue Jays are 64-68, two games back of a wild-card spot, with 30 games left and likely needing to go 20-10 to make the postseason.
Casey's breakout is a story for another year. This series is the one that actually matters right now.
