The Philadelphia Phillies announced yesterday that they decided to part ways with former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Josh Walker.

The Blue Jays DFA'd Walker back in late May then decided to trade him to the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.

The Phillies announced yesterday that they activated LHP Jose Alvarado off the restricted list after he has completed his suspension and consequently DFA'd Walker while also optioning Nolan Hoffman.
The Phillies activated LHP Jose Alvarado from the Restricted List.

RHP Nolan Hoffman has been optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.

LHP Josh Walker has been designated for assignment.

This move does not come as a big surprise since Walker has had a very tough season in 2025 after putting up a 7.20 ERA in 3 games which all came with the Blue Jays earlier in the season.
Since being traded to Philadelphia, Walker has been with the Phillies Triple-A affiliate team in Lehigh Valley where he had a 4.50 ERA in 23 games across 26 innings pitched.
Walker has had a tough time in the MLB throughout his career as every time he has been called up to the majors he has struggled which is why it certainly will not be easy for him to land another contract this season.
If he is lucky, Walker will be able to possibly sign a minor league deal once he clears waivers as the chances of him being claimed a very small.
