The MLB announced a list of the top free agent for each team in the majors and surprisingly named infielder Willy Adames as the Toronto Blue Jays top option.
The MLB has Willy Adames as the Blue Jays top free agent
The MLB put a list together of the top free agent for each team in the majors and have Willy Adames as the Blue Jays top free agent which is surprising since acquiring a pitcher seems to be their top priority.
According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, in addition to the obvious top free agent in Juan Soto, he indicated that the Jays are also interested in power-hitting infielder Willy Adames. -Eng
Regardless, Adames would be a great fit for the Blue Jays since he is coming off an incredible season in 2024 with 32 homeruns and 112 RBIs on 153 hits which would be a great addition to the Blue Jays offense in 2025.
After all, he is coming off a sensational 2024 campaign with the Milwaukee Brewers in which he posted career-bests in runs scored (93), hits (153), doubles (33), home runs (32), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and total bases (282).
With four consecutive 20+ home runs and 70+ RBI seasons, he has the ability to provide consistent run production in the heart of the lineup for any contender. -Eng
The Blue Jays have a ton of infielders on their current roster but it seems none of them are seen as everyday starters which is why the Blue Jays have been looking at signing Adames.
During the 2024 season, the Toronto Blue Jays had many standouts that helped solidify their infield as the year progressed. Players such as Ernie Clement, Spencer Horwitz, Leo Jiménez, Addison Barger, Davis Schneider and even Will Wagner made the most of their opportunities. -Eng
If the Blue Jays do sign Adames, it is a great option since he would bring in offense and is able to play third base or second base which are two areas that need help with and would put Ernie Clement wherever Adames doesn't play.
Even though the Blue Jays most pressing need is finding pitchers, signing Adames could be extremely beneficial.
