The Toronto Blue Jays announce big update for top prospect Je'Von Ward

It's been a long time coming for Je'Von Ward. The 25-year-old outfield prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays system has earned his first-ever promotion to Double-A.
A native of Cerritos, California, Ward was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Blue Jays prospect quickly turning heads.
Matthew Sookram from Jays Journal writes despite posting respectable numbers over the years, he had yet to advance beyond Single-A, until now.
"Now in his second year in the Blue Jays system, he's finally earned a promotion going from the Vancouver Canadians to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Ward's pitch recognition has been outstanding this year with a 27.9% BB rate. He also led the Northwest League with 64 walks before the promotion, 13 walks ahead of the next closets hitter." -Sookram
While Ward's batting average sits at just .215 this season, he's made his hits count. 13 of his 35 have gone for extra bases, including four home runs, six doubles, and three triples. More impressively, he's posted a stellar .437 on-base percentage, scored 43 runs, and holds a wRC+ of 133, showcasing his value well beyond the box score.
"On the defensive side of the ball, Ward has always been a capable defender, playing in all three outfield spots. He's split time across left, right and centre fairly evenly this season and has made just one error all year and has made 102 put outs on 106 chances with the ball hit his way." -Sookram
It takes a great deal of patience and perseverance to stay the course in pro baseball as long as Ward has. Once ranked among the top ten prospects in the Brewers organization, he was eventually overtaken by others as he struggles to meet those early expectation.
Still. his dedication to the game and relentless effort to improve may finally be paying off as he enters a new chapter with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
