The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be clear buyers headed into the trade deadline and rivals Baltimore Orioles are clear sellers which is why there seems to be some interest in pitchers Zach Eflin and Tomoyuki Sugano.

The Blue Jays are currently one of the best teams in the MLB over the last month but they are still looking to add some players at the deadline especially when it comes to starting pitchers.

The Blue Jays have a few reliable pitchers in their rotation but with all the uncertainty around Max Scherzer and with how bad Bowden Francis has been playing, adding another starting pitcher could only help.
The Orioles are currently struggling and will look to be big time sellers at the deadline which is why there are expected to move on from Eflin who would be a perfect fit for Toronto.
The Baltimore Orioles are headed towards their worst season in a long time, and should already be looking to reset after this year. In doing so, one of their top starters in Zach Eflin should be on the Jays' wish list. -Eng

On the other hand the Blue Jays could also be interested in Tomoyuki Sugano who the Orioles will also look to move and he is having an even better season that Eflin with a 3.23 ERA and 5-4 record in 2025.
Japanese pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano is another solid candidate from the Orioles whose season has been even better than Eflin's to date . Playing in his first season in MLB, Sugano had been performing like he has been in the league for a long time. In 13 starts, the 35-year-old right-hander has compiled a 5-4 record with a solid 3.23 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. -Eng

Either Eflin or Sugano would be a great addition for the Blue Jays starting rotation as they cannot afford to go into the playoffs with so much uncertainty in their starting rotation.
If the Blue Jays only have one move to make at the trade deadline, it's to acquire a starting pitcher before anything else.
