The World Baseball Classic rosters are official, and the Blue Jays are sending a literal army of talent to represent their countries next month.
Seeing 12 players leave camp is a double-edged sword: it’s a huge flex for the organization’s talent level, but it’s also a month of holding our breath.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Signed as Int. Free Agent, 2015 by Toronto) is finally suiting up for the Dominican Republic after missing the 2023 tournament with a knee injury.
This is the moment Vladdy has been waiting for, joining a "super team" that includes Fernando Tatis Jr. and Sandy Alcantara.
Alejandro Kirk (Signed as Int. Free Agent, 2016 by Toronto) will be the field general for Team Mexico, a role that perfectly suits his calm demeanor.
After a bounce-back 2025 season where he posted a 4.7 fWAR, Kirk is ready to show the world he’s an elite catcher.
Kazuma Okamoto (Signed as Int. Free Agent, 2025 by Toronto) gets to defend Japan’s title immediately after signing his big contract with the Jays.
It’s a rare chance for us to see our new slugger in high-pressure games before he even plays a regular-season inning in Toronto.
The pitching situation is where the anxiety really kicks in
Yariel Rodriguez (Cuba) and Jose Berrios (Puerto Rico) are key arms, but the insurance drama surrounding Berrios is a major headache.
Berrios is currently in "wait-and-see" mode due to insurance coverage denials, a frustrating bureaucratic hurdle for a guy who is practically indestructible.
If he can't pitch, it's a blow to Puerto Rico, but secretly, maybe a relief for Jays fans who want him fresh for Opening Day.
On the prospect side, keep an eye on Adam Macko (Drafted 7th Round, 2019 by Seattle) pitching for Canada.
It’s a golden opportunity for the lefty to prove he’s recovered from last year’s knee surgery against top-tier hitting.
Ernie Clement (Drafted 4th Round, 2017 by Cleveland) representing Team USA is the feel-good story we didn’t know we needed.
We’ll be cheering for every strikeout and home run, but mostly, we’ll be praying for zero injuries.
