The Toronto Blue Jays released a message last night regarding the passing of one of their former players and MLB legend Rickey Henderson.
The baseball world was in shock yesterday when the news broke that stolen base leader and icon Rickey Henderson passed away on the night of December 20th from an pneumonia.
We are devastated to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson.
Across a 25-year career, Henderson was a 10-time All-Star, 3-time Silver Slugger Award winner, 2-time World Series champion and the 1990 American League MVP.
Nicknamed the «Man of Steal,» Henderson owns the record for most career stolen bases (1,406) as well as the Modern Era (post-1900) record for most steals in a single season, with 130 in 1982. He led the American League in stolen bases in 12 separate seasons, and was MLB's overall steals leader in six of those years.
14 of Henderson's 25 seasons were spent with the Athletics. He also played for the Yankees, Padres, Mets, Mariners, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Angels and Dodgers.
Henderson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009. He was 65 years old.

News broke online yesterday morning regarding Henderson's passing when former teammate and Blue Jays player Dave Winfield posted a tribute to Henderson regarding his passing.
Once the news was confirmed, the Blue Jays posted a message of their own acknowledging Henderson's impact on the game of baseball and with the community in Toronto during his short time here.
We join the baseball community in mourning the passing of Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson.

Henderson was only in Toronto for half of the 1993 season but was part of Blue Jays history as he helped lead the team to a second World Series championship that season before returning to the Oakland Athletics the following season.
