The Toronto Blue Jays have brought in a new pitcher as they claimed Casey Lawrence off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
The Blue Jays recently placed Ryan Burr on 60 Day IL meaning he will not be back for quite some time which is likely the reason behind claiming Lawrence as it gives them an extra arm in the bullpen.
Blue Jays claim Casey Lawrence off waivers from the Mariners
The Mariners DFA'd Lawrence a couple days ago to make room on their 40 man roster for pitchers Troy Taylor and Tayler Saucedo while pitcher Logan Gilbert was placed on 1 day IL.
. @Mariners roster moves:
Tayler Saucedo, LHP, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. Troy Taylor, RHP, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. Logan Gilbert, RHP, placed on 15-day Injured List (right elbow flexor strain). Casey Lawrence, RHP, designated for assignment.
The Blue Jays just announced that they claimed Lawrence off waivers from the Mariners and this will be Lawrence's third stint with the team as he was in Toronto in 2017 and 2022.
#BlueJays announce they've claimed Casey Lawrence off waivers from the Mariners.
Lawrence is 37 now and appeared in the bigs with the Jays in 2017 and 2022. He's an option to start or give them length as a bulk reliever.
It will be interesting to see how he does in Toronto as he had a decent start to the season with the Mariners as his current ERA sits at 3.60 in 10 innings pitched with 4 strikeouts.
If Lawrence can build off of his numbers in Seattle, the Blue Jays made a solid move in bringing him in.
