Zac Gallen is still sitting on the open market, and the Blue Jays have a golden opportunity to turn a great offseason into a legendary one.
While some fans are discussing "trade packages," the reality is even sweeter: Gallen is a free agent, meaning we don't have to give up a single prospect to get him.
The "return" or cost? Just cold hard cash and a draft pick.
The proposal floating around suggests the Blue Jays could land the former Cy Young contender on a high-AAV, short-term "pillow deal" with opt-outs.
This allows Gallen to rebuild his value after a rocky 2025 season (4.83 ERA, 13-15 Record), while Toronto gets an ace-level arm to round out the staff.
We already shocked the world by signing Dylan Cease ($210M deal), but adding Gallen would just be showing off.
It sends a message to the Yankees and Orioles that we aren't just trying to compete; we are trying to suffocate them with pitching depth.
The Diamondbacks offered him a Qualifying Offer, so signing him costs us a draft pick, but when you are in "World Series or Bust" mode, you happily pay that tax.
A rotation so deep it feels illegal
As a fan, looking at a potential rotation of Gausman, Cease, Ponce, Bieber, and Gallen makes me want to fast-forward to October.
We wouldn't just have a "No. 1 starter"; we would have three guys who could start Game 1 of the World Series.
Gallen’s ability to eat innings (192 IP last year) protects the bullpen and keeps everyone fresh.
Sure, his strikeout rate dipped last year, but putting him in a rotation where he doesn't have to be "The Guy" could unlock his 2023 form.
This moves the needle from "playoff contender" to "juggernaut."
If Rogers is willing to foot the bill, this is the kind of move that wins parades.
Why settle for good when you can be historic?
