Toronto Blue Jays closing in on a trade for Philadelphia Phillies slugger
After locking up first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a 14-year, $500 million contract extension on Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to build around their star franchise player.
Blue Jays have also locked up outfielder, Anthony Santander, catcher Alejandro Kirk, and second baseman Andrés Giménez. Important players that will all be part of this team's core moving forward beyond the 2025 season.
Among the recent signings, the Blue Jays are eyeing to bring in $79M Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.
Jackson Roberts from The Sporting News writes that the Blue Jays are likely to lose players such as Bo Bichette and Chris Bassitt in free agency, creating a lot of cap space in the off-seaon to bring in players like Kyle Schwarber
On Monday, FanSided's Chris Landers urged the Blue Jays to pursue beloved Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber as part of a "dream lineup" centered around Guerrero for the 2026 season.
"Moving forward, Santander, Kirk and Gimenez are the long-term pieces in place around Guerrero Jr. But there are still holes to fill, notably at DH and on the left side of the infield (assuming that Bichette is indeed set on leaving town)," Landers wrote. -Roberts

Schwarber, 32, has 167 home runs since the start of the 2021 season. A hot bat that can definitely help a young Blue Jays team reshape their franchise.
It just so happens that this offseason is a good one for the former, as both Kyle Schwarber and Marcell Ozuna are set to hit the market... Schwarber feels like an ideal lefty counterpoint to Guerrero Jr., a high-OBP tablesetter for the big boppers behind him, and he could be had given his age and lack of defensive profile. -Roberts
