The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to make a big splash at the trade deadline this year and it looks like they have their eyes set of Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Pierce Johnson.

The Blue Jays have had some problems with their bullpen this season due to multiple injuries and inconsistency from the pitchers that have been able to stay healthy such as Jeff Hoffman.

Blue Jays could look to trade for Braves pitcher Pierce Johnson

As the Blue Jays could benefit from adding a starting or relief pitcher at the trade deadline and have been linked to both as the deadline approaches rapidly.
The latest report suggest that the Blue Jays could be interested in Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Pierce Johnson who has been having quite the season for the struggling Braves.
On Monday, Zach Pressnell of FanSided suggested that Toronto could acquire Pierce Johnson, an eight-year veteran who has pitched to a 2.84 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings this season. -Roberts

So far this season Johnson has been extremely consistent on the mound which is exactly what the Blue Jays are looking to add as he currently has a 2.84 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts in that time along with a 1.17 WHIP.
Johnson is currently on an expiring contract and since the Braves will likely not re-sign him or make the playoffs, he will surely be dealt at the trade deadline which is where the Blue Jays come in.
"The Braves will almost certainly look to cut ties with relief pitcher Pierce Johnson ahead of the trade deadline. Johnson is having a great season with the Braves, and his contract expires after next season," -Pressnell

This could be a great move for Toronto as Johnson would be an incredible rental and since he is on an expiring deal, they could get a phenomenal relief pitcher from likely a very small return.
As the deadline is only a few weeks away, Ross Atkins has likely already started working the phones to see what his options are.
