The AL East race is heating up, the Toronto Blue Jays are in prime position to win the division for the first time in ten years, the only team threatening them are the New York Yankees, both teams have 6 games remaining before the MLB postseason gets underway.
The Blue Jays can determine their own fate as they have a 2 game lead on the Yankees.
Toronto Blue Jays with opportunity to win AL East for the first time in ten years.
Matt Postins of Toronto Blue Jays SI spoke recently on the playoff race between the Blue Jays and the Yankees of the AL East. While the race is tight the Blue Jays are the one's in the driver seat.
"First, there is the AL East. The race remains close. The Blue Jays only have a two-game lead on the New York Yankees (88-68) who also have six games remaining. Due to that, the Blue Jays' magic number to win the division is four. That's any combination of Blue Jays wins and Yankees losses."-Postins
Not only is there a race for the AL East but also in the American League overall. That race is even tighter, and while you only need to be top 2 to get a bye, but finishing first would mean home field advantage until the World Series.
"Now, there's the matter of the No. 1 overall seed. Toronto has a three-game lead over the Seattle Mariners (87-69), who vaulted into the No. 2 seed last weekend with a sweep of the Houston Astros. The Detroit Tigers (85-71) are now five games behind and practically out of the hunt for the No. 1 seed."-Postins
The magic number for the Blue Jays is still 4 wins to clinch the American League. Considering all 6 games are at home, and how good the Blue Jays are at home, it is likely they will clinch both.
