The Blue Jays should buy low on Heliot Ramos this winter. The Yankees barely used their deadline pickup once October arrived.

New York acquired the 2024 All-Star from the Giants at the deadline. It went badly, as he hit .198 over 38 games in pinstripes.

October was worse. Ramos played just one playoff game for the Yankees, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Red Sox.

But the underlying numbers barely moved. His hard-hit rate actually ticked up to 48.7% in New York, with a .341 xwOBA.

He also averaged a 92.9 mph exit velocity after the trade. The quality of contact was there, and the results simply weren't.

The track record backs it up. He hit 20-plus homers in both 2024 and 2025, and he'd posted a .728 OPS with the Giants this year before the deal.

Spencer Jones is the dream target and the longest shot

Why chase a guy the Yankees soured on? Because buying a bat with healthy contact numbers after a rough two months is exactly how smart teams find value.

Toronto needs outfield help, with Anthony Santander's health uncertain and left field a revolving door. The five-year veteran could slide into a corner spot right away.

Make the call. Division rivals rarely trade, but these two clubs have done business before, and a buy-low swap can help both sides.

Spencer Jones would be the headline deal. The 25-year-old rookie hit 11 homers in 86 games with the Yankees.

He mashed at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, too, with 14 homers in just 54 games.

The catch is the swing-and-miss. He's carried a strikeout rate above 30%, a profile not far from Kazuma Okamoto's, and Okamoto led the Jays in homers.

New York has publicly framed Jones and George Lombard Jr. as part of its emerging core. Prying him loose would take a premium package.

Asking the Yankees for Jones is like asking your neighbour for the tomato plant he's bragged about all summer. He might sell, but not cheap, and probably not to you.

Ramos is the realistic target. If Ross Atkins lands him for spare parts, the Yankees could get to watch those contact numbers turn into results 13 times a year.
