Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has undergone laser eye surgery after the worst season of his Blue Jays career. Whether it fixes the swing is another question.

The news surfaced Friday. The Laser Eye Center of Miami posted that Guerrero was "doing great at his post-op visit after laser vision correction with Dr. Gabriel Lazcano."

The clinic didn't stop there. It said it's "looking forward to an MVP year and lots of home runs with his new vision."

Fans will take any good news they can get. Guerrero hit .260 with nine home runs in 2026, and only one of them came at Rogers Centre.

The rest of the line was just as rough. His .688 OPS sat below league average for a first baseman, and a 90 OPS+ put his bat below average overall.

He did play Gold Glove-caliber defense at first, good for 1.1 bWAR. That's thin value for a player who earned $40.2 million this season.

Joey Votto blamed timing for the Vladdy slump

Fans and analysts hammered his pitch selection all season. He also walked less than his career average, which makes the vision angle at least plausible.

But Joey Votto offered a different diagnosis on Thursday. The former Reds star compared Guerrero's swing to creeping through a stop sign at 100 miles per hour, with his body getting in the way of the barrel.

Laser surgery is a smart box to check. Treating it like a swing fix would set Guerrero up for another long summer.

It's like cleaning your glasses before a piano recital. Helpful, sure, but the fingers still have to hit the right keys.

Ross Atkins already said he's "very confident he will be back," and a full offseason was supposed to give the club a better canvas to work with.

That canvas might shrink. The league is pushing for a salary cap, the players have said they won't accept one, and experts expect a lockout this winter.

So what happens if a work stoppage drags into the spring? His reset gets squeezed, right when the Jays need it most.

The vision is corrected. Whether the barrel follows will define year two of a 14-year deal, and how loud the questions get in Toronto.
