Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays are in the midst of their first game of the season. So far, the Jays are in control of the game, but anything can happen in Major League Baseball.
Last season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a disappointing year by his standards. Back in 2021, he came through with a career-high 48 home runs. A year later, he was only able to manage 32. However, in 2023, fans were stunned by his lack of production as he only notched 26 homers. Coming into this season, fans, analysts, and Guerrero himself acknowledged that things needed to change. Otherwise, the team would be destined for another disappointing Wild Card exit. Or worse, a case of missing the playoffs entirely.
As of writing this, the Toronto Blue Jays are playing against the Tampa Bay Rays in an Opening Day thriller. In the bottom of the seventh, the Jays are up by a score of 8-2. Innings prior, George Springer hit the team's first home run of the season. Not long after, Cavan Biggio hit yet another homer. Once Guerrero Jr got to the plate, things got that much more interesting as he too, hit a home run.

The home run was a classic center-field dinger that silenced the Tampa Bay crowd. Although the Rays had a lead early on, the Blue Jays were able to completely eviscerate it. It was a wild sight to behold, and the Jays players were loving every single second of it. As for Guerrero Jr, this was a great way to get himself back on track, all while setting the tone for this season.
Following today's game, the Blue Jays will play the Rays three more times before heading to Houston. They will eventually play their first home game on April 8th against the Seattle Mariners.
