Fans believe that the New York Yankees are cheating due to new bats
The New York Yankees have incorporated new baseball bats this seaosn that many have been calling torpedo bats which some fans believe is cheating.
The torpedo bat is similar to a regular baseball bat but the main difference is that the the top of the bat is not the thickest part as they have made the middle of the bat the thickest section with a slimmer top.
The difference between the two bats is noticeable, as the «Torpedo» barrel rests in a non-traditional location, closer to the hitter's hands. -Hoch
Fans believe that the Yankees new torpedo bats is cheating
The Yankees have been off to a historic run so far this season in terms of homeruns hit through only 4 games in the season and many believe it is due to these new bats they have incorporated.
The Yankees made home run history during their season-opening homestand, tying an AL/NL record with 15 home runs in their first three games of a season and tying a club mark with 13 home runs in two games. They belted four in Sunday's 12-3 win after clubbing nine on Saturday. -Hoch
While many fans online have been stating that they should not be allowed to use these new bats are they should be considered cheating, the MLB has inspected them and it is clear that they are legal.
And they're legal; Major League Baseball confirmed Sunday that the bats do not violate Major League rules or bat supplier regulations. Rule 3.02 states that bats cannot be more than 2.61 inches in diameter and 42 inches in length. -Hoch
Yankees Anthony Volpe stated that he fully bought into the idea since it just made sense to him to have the biggest part of the bat be where you hit the ball the majority of the time.
«The concept makes so much sense. I know I'm bought in,» Volpe said. «The bigger you can have the barrel where you hit the ball, it makes sense to me.» -Hoch
It will be interesting to see if mroe teams begins to use this concept or if the MLB steps in and ends up banning these news bats.
