Former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this year, the ace pitcher will become a free agent at the end of this season, however his contract value is much lower than anticipated.

Shane Bieber has strikingly low value entering free agency

Jon Conahan of Sporting News writes that Shane Bieber has one of the more interesting free agency cases in the league.
Bieber has a very small sample size since returning from surgery and is expected to sign this off season for around $145 million despite many believing he would closer to $200 million.
"Searching ahead, however, the right-hander is set to hit the free agency market. Perhaps more difficult to value than any player around the league, there are questions about how much Bieber will get. There are also questions about whether he'll return to the Blue Jays. According to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, it's much more likely that the Blue Jays keep Bo Bichette around than Bieber as of now."Conahan

Bieber also has deeper connections out west than he does in Toronto, which would entice him to leave.
"The Jays just don't have the same history with Bieber. He also has significant West Coast connections that could make other destinations appealing. Bieber was born and went to school in California, lives in Arizona during the offseason and spent much of his rehab time in the Grand Canyon State this year at the Cleveland Guardians' spring training facility in Goodyear, Ariz.»-Conahan

At the end of the day it will al come down to how much money he is offered. If the number gets too high, then it is unlikely he re-signs in Toronto as they will have their hands full withBo Bichette. And if he has a good postseason that number can skyrocket.
