The Royals are interested in trading for Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette
The Blue Jays just signed Guerrero last night to the largest contract in Blue Jays history which has now put them in a tough spot when it comes to re-signing shortstop Bo Bichette.
First and foremost, there's shortstop Bo Bichette. Now that Guerrero is locked in, it seems highly unlikely that Toronto will be able to afford Bichette's eventual contract, which will make him a high-priced rental at the deadline. -Roberts
Since the Blue Jays will likely not be able to re-sign Bichette, they will probably look to move him at the trade deadline since it would be better to get a small return than none at all.
Apparently the Royals would be interested in trading for Bichette as a rental until the end of the season with a possibility of extending him before free agency since they could pair him with superstar Bobby Witt Jr.
Though Kansas City isn't likely to go after Bichette in free agency, he'd be a great bat to add for the stretch run, and could theoretically play second or third base next to Bobby Witt Jr. He's got 12 hits in the Jays' first 10 games this season, though he's still waiting on that first homer. -Roberts
The Blue Jays were already uncertain on if they wanted to keep Bichette but now with how he is playing and the fact that they just added $500 million to their payroll, the chances of them spending on Bichette are slim to none.
Trading Bichette at the deadline will not bring back a massive return but they will at least be able to get something whereas if they keep him until the end of the season they will end up with nothing.
