Yohendrick Piñango is batting cleanup for John Schneider, and that is the loudest change on the Blue Jays' lineup card against the Pirates.

That is the angle here. Toronto did not just post another routine Sunday lineup. Schneider moved Piñango into one of the biggest run-producing spots on the card.

George Springer stays at the top as the designated hitter, with Daulton Varsho batting second in center field. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. holds the three-hole at first base.

Then comes the move that jumps off the page. Piñango is in left field and hitting fourth, which gives the young outfielder a bigger offensive assignment than usual.

That says plenty about how Schneider wants this game to flow. With Springer, Varsho, and Guerrero ahead of him, Piñango walks into the kind of spot built for traffic and RBI chances.

Jesús Sánchez follows in right field, giving Toronto another left-handed bat right behind Piñango. Kazuma Okamoto hits sixth at third base, which pushes some power deeper into the order.

Why this Blue Jays lineup looks different

The top half has a little more edge to it. Schneider is clearly trying to keep pressure on Pittsburgh early instead of waiting for the bottom of the order to turn the lineup over.

Piñango batting cleanup is the clearest sign of that. This is not a soft landing spot for a young hitter. It is a vote of trust from a manager looking for quality at-bats in the middle of the game.

There is also a cleaner defensive look behind the first six spots. Ernie Clement plays second base and hits seventh, while Andrés Giménez slides to shortstop in the eight hole.

Brandon Valenzuela catches and bats ninth, which gives Toronto a bottom third built more around steadiness than thump. That can still matter when the top of the order is asked to carry more of the scoring load.

Springer at DH is worth noting, too. Keeping him out of the field helps Schneider protect a veteran bat while still letting him set the tone from the leadoff spot.

The construction of the lineup points to a simple plan. Get on base at the top, let Guerrero and Piñango hit with men aboard, then ask Sánchez and Okamoto to keep the inning alive.

For Piñango, this is the biggest tell on the card. Cleanup is where managers put hitters they want in the middle of the action, not hidden from it.

That is why this lineup matters beyond one game. The Blue Jays are not only trying to finish the Pirates set with a win. They are also showing just how much trust Yohendrick Piñango is starting to earn.
