Just when we thought the rotation was set in stone, a new report has linked the Blue Jays to Houston Astros ace Framber Valdez, a move that would be absolute overkill in the best possible way.
Ross Atkins has already assembled an Avengers-level staff, but adding one of the game's premier left-handers would send a terrifying message to the rest of the American League.
According to a buzz-worthy report from Bleacher Report covered by SI, Toronto is listed as a potential "shocking" landing spot for the ground-ball artist.
The concept is almost too greedy to believe.
Framber Valdez (Signed as Int'l FA, 2015 by Astros) has been a workhorse, ranking second in the majors in innings pitched since 2022.
Even in a "down" year last season, he posted a solid 3.66 ERA and continued to induce ground balls at an elite 59% clip.
Imagine a playoff series where you have to face Dylan Cease, Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, and then Valdez.
The Blue Jays were said to possibly be done adding players but it looks like that has taken a sudden turn and they might have a couple new faces on the roster before Spring Training.
It is the kind of depth that makes a 162-game season feel like a breeze.
Greed is good when chasing a championship
Some might say we don't "need" him with Trey Yesavage knocking on the door and Jose Berrios still dealing.
But you never, ever turn down elite pitching talent if the ownership is willing to foot the bill.
Valdez brings a different look from the left side that complements our right-handed heavy group perfectly.
His ability to keep the ball on the ground is tailor-made for the Rogers Centre infield defense.
If this rumor has any legs, it proves that the front office isn't just trying to make the playoffs; they are trying to bulldoze their way to a parade.
It would be a bold, "all-in" maneuver that we haven't seen in Toronto since the glory days.
Let’s hope where there is smoke, there is fire.
Because a rotation this deep doesn't just win games; it demoralizes opponents before they even step into the box.
