Davis Schneider is heading to St. Louis, and while saying goodbye to a fan favorite hurts, the return is exactly what this team needs to win.

It is never easy to trade a guy like "Babe," who grinded his way from obscurity to cult hero status in Toronto.
But Ross Atkins made the tough call today, sending Schneider (Drafted 28th Round, 2017 by Toronto) to the Cardinals for lefty reliever JoJo Romero.
The writing was on the wall after the massive Kazuma Okamoto signing earlier this winter pushed everyone down the depth chart.
With George Springer moving to full-time DH and Anthony Santander locking down left field, Schneider was looking at a season on the bench.
Instead of letting him rot, the Jays flipped him for a legitimate weapon who can get big outs when it matters most.
Romero (Drafted 4th Round, 2016 by Philadelphia) is coming off a spectacular season where he posted a sparkling 2.07 ERA.
This isn't a project; this is a guy entering his contract year who has been lights out for two straight seasons.

Romero brings the stability we missed in October

We all remember the feeling of terror watching Brendon Little lose the strike zone during the World Series meltdown.
Romero provides immediate insurance against that happening again, giving John Schneider a trustworthy lefty option alongside Eric Lauer.
The Cardinals were desperate for a right-handed bat after missing out on free agents, and we dealt from a position of strength.
It is a classic "baseball trade" where both teams get exactly what they were missing to compete for a title.
Schneider gets a chance to play every day in St. Louis, which is what he deserves after everything he gave us.
And the Blue Jays get a bullpen arm that transforms the late innings from a question mark into a strength.
Thank you for the memories, Davis, but welcome to the show, JoJo—we have a ring to chase.
