The Blue Jays surprisingly signed Joey Votto this summer but he rolled his ankle during Spring Training and has been nowhere to be found since.

Manager John Schneider recently spoke to reporters regarding Votto's recovery saying that it is taking longer than expected. He added that the former MVP is taking live at bats and will likely make a return with the Jays rookie-level Florida Complex League.

"He's fine with doing it anywhere as long as pitchers are throwing strikes," Schneider said. "So, it'll probably be [Complex League] before he goes anywhere else."

According to Schneider, the process is taking so long because Votto wants to make sure he is at 100% before making his return.

"He was pretty adamant about being 100 per cent physically before he really stepped on the gas," said the manager. "So, I think, out of fairness to him, [he expressed] that even when he came in, before he got hurt. It was just like, 'I want to make sure that I'm really ready before I go.'"

Even once he is fully healthy, there is a very small chance that he will be in the MLB this season but depending on how things go in the minors, there is always a chance.
