The Toronto Blue Jays were unable to complete the sweep against the Texas Rangers yesterday as pitcher Jose Berrios struggled on the mound once again which he spoke on after the game.
Jose Berrios speaks on possibility of losing his job to Shane Bieber
The Blue Jays played incredibly in their first two games of the series against the Rangers and were hoping to walk away with another sweep but unfortunately fell short in a 10-4 loss.
Berrios had another tough performance as he gave up 10 hits and 6 earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched while only striking out 2 batters before the Blue Jays put an end to his night.
"Then came Seager's towering homer in the fifth that spelled the end for Berrios. In total, the right-hander allowed six runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings, with no walks and two strikeouts." -Singh
Berrios spoke to reporters after the game being quite harsh on himself stating that he is fresh and healthy but needs to figure out these issues and make better pitches.
"I'm fresh and healthy, so just turn the page, I have to figure out and make adjustments on that and make better pitches,» -Berrios
The Blue Jays starting pitcher was also asked about how he felt about Bieber joining the rotation and getting possibly less chances to pitch because of that which he stated he would do whatever the team needs of him.
«Honestly I don't know what's going to happen,» said Berrios. «But yeah, [Bieber's] going to come. He's ready. He's healthy. So, he's ready to help us accomplish our goal. Hopefully we can keep pitching the way we're pitching.» -Berrios
Berrios finished by saying that the real question will be how will things go when the Blue Jays enter the playoff since running 6 pitchers might cause some issues.
«The only difference is when we get to the playoffs,» said Berrios. «We don't have too many off days and extra days [then] so having six days off at the end of the season, then coming back to throw every four or five days in the playoffs are going to be different. But right now, if we get extra, it's going to be good.» -Berrios
In his last 7 games, Berrios has a rough 5.56 ERA in 34 innings pitched with only 25 strikeouts while giving up 21 hits which is why some believe that he might end up losing his starting rotation spot in the playoffs if he does not step his game up.
