Toronto Blue Jays veteran pitcher Max Scherzer had another solid performance last night against the Los Angeles Dodgers and after the game he gave an update on his thumb injury.

Scherzer was on the mound against his former teammate Clayton Kershaw yesterday for a battle between two legends in which the Dodgers ended up winning by a score of 5-1.

Another quality start for the GOAT
After the game, Scherzer spoke to Arden Zwelling about his thumb injury stating that it has been in a much better spot lately and feels like he finally has made a breakthrough with this injury that he has been dealing with for three seasons now.
" My hand is in a much better spot. My thumb is in a much better spot. I felt very strong [Friday] with my hand and thumb. So, I think I'm finally making a breakthrough on this. I kind of feel normal. From a hand standpoint, this is the best I've felt since Spring Training.

I can really throw every pitch. I can really get into my thumb. Your thumb is absolutely critical to your arm health. I can't say that enough. So, When your thumb is protected, when my thumb is in a better spot, I can throw all my pitches, from the first pitch to the last pitch, and have strength to execute.

I feel like I'm going to have good health on that front going forward, in terms of my hand. You're never out of the woods. I'M 41, I get it. Anything can pop up here. But because this is such a systematic injury for me, having a thumb problem be lasting for so long, for really three years now, this is the first time I'm kind of getting out of it." -Scherzer
Scherzer has been consistently improving and has put up solid numbers across the board in his last 7 starts as he has a 3.92 ERA in 39 innings pitched with 44 strikeouts and a 2-2 record.
As the future Hall of Famer said, he will never fully be out of the woods as something could arise at any time, it is great to hear that he has not felt this healthy in a long time.
The timing with all of this is quite perfect since the season is slowly coming to an end and the Blue Jays will need Scherzer at the top of his game once the playoffs arrive.
Many questioned the signing after Scherzer went down earlier this season but it looks like the move is finally starting to pay off for the Blue Jays.
