Yohendrick Pinango gives John Schneider a new leadoff look as the Blue Jays chase a series win Sunday in Minnesota.

That lineup choice stood out right away. Pinango is batting first in left field as Toronto tries to finish the Twins set with a win at Target Field.
The rest of the card tells its own story. Kazuma Okamoto hits second, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. serves as the designated hitter, and Jesús Sánchez bats cleanup against right-hander Joe Ryan.
Lenyn Sosa follows in the fifth spot, with Daulton Varsho sixth, Ernie Clement seventh, Andrés Giménez eighth, and Tyler Heineman catching in the ninth spot.
There is a little pressure packed into that order. The Blue Jays come into the afternoon at 16-17, while the Twins sit at 14-20, so this is a real chance for Toronto to grab the set and get closer to even footing.
The pitching matchup adds even more weight. Trey Yesavage gets the ball for Toronto with a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA, while Minnesota counters with Joe Ryan, who enters at 2-3 with a 3.76 ERA.
That is why the leadoff call matters. Schneider is not just posting another Sunday getaway lineup. He is trying to spark traffic early for a club that can leave this road series feeling much better about itself.

Schneider’s card leans into contact and balance

Pinango at the top gives Toronto a different look from Saturday, when George Springer led off in the Blue Jays’ 11-4 win. Springer was hit on his left foot in that game and left early, though John Schneider later said X-rays showed no further damage.
That helps explain why this card looks different. Toronto can still keep Springer down for the day it had already been planning to manage, while also seeing what Pinango can do in a spot with real game pressure.
Clement’s place back in the lineup matters too. After getting Friday off, he returns as another steady contact bat for a lineup that needs fewer empty innings and better support behind Yesavage.
There is also no Myles Straw in this version of the order, and Brandon Valenzuela gives way to Heineman behind the plate after Saturday’s game. Schneider clearly wanted a different mix as Toronto goes after the series.
The middle of the card still runs through Guerrero and Okamoto. If Toronto is going to finish this trip the right way, those are the bats that need to turn Pinango’s table-setting chance into runs.
For the Blue Jays, this lineup card says something simple. Schneider is chasing the series win, protecting what he has to protect, and trusting a different top-of-the-order look to help get it done.
