Brutal news as George Springer leaves game with an injury
The Toronto Blue Jays' sputtering offence may have just taken another hit on Sunday.
Earlier in April, the 35-year-old exited a game versus the New York Mets after colliding with the outfield wall. The team later reported he was dealing with lower back spasms, though he returned the following day as a pinch runner. Now, Springer seems to have injured another part of his body.
The team announced that designated hitter George Springer left Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles due to discomfort in his left wrist.
Sportsnet reported that the exact cause of Springer's injury remains uncertain. Manager John Schneider and head trainer Jose Ministral checked on him during his fifth-inning at-bat, but he stayed in the game and completed the plate appearance, striking out with two outs and runners on second and third.

George Springer was removed from today's Blue Jays game with what the club is describing as "left wrist discomfort"
Here are Springer's final three swings of the game in the fifth inning:
Coming into the game, the Blue Jays (8-7) held a slim 1.5-game lead over the Orioles (6-8) in the AL East. Although it's still early in the season, matchups like these can have a big impact on the final standings.
That makes Springer's early exit all the more concerning for a Toronto team that's leaned heavily on his offensive contributions. Sunday's contest wraps up the series between the two clubs.
