Free-agent catcher Danny Jansen and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a two-year, $14.5 million contract that includes bonuses to get it to $15.5 million, according to sources familiar with the deal.
Jansen elected free agency after 2024 and ended signing a one year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays in hope of having a great 2025 campaign and landing a long term deal this off-season.
Unfortunately for Jansen, he struggled this season and ended up being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers at the trade deadline.
The best season of Jansen's career remain his 2023 with the Blue Jays in which he hit 17 home runs with 53 RBIs and a .228 batting average in only 86 games.
Since Rangers catcher Jonah Heim elected free agency at the end of the season, there is a good chance Jansen will be Texas' primary catcher in 2026.
