Alek Manoah's brutal spring start hurts, but this rude awakening gives the Angels the exact baseline they need to rebuild his lost confidence.
The final box score from today is incredibly hard to swallow for any loyal baseball fan hoping for a resurgence.
Manoah managed to survive just 2.1 innings, surrendering five earned runs and walking five batters while giving up three hits.
His command was completely absent from the very first pitch. Watching him battle himself out on the mound was genuinely tough.
When a veteran pitcher struggles this visibly during the spring, the immediate reaction online is always ruthless and completely unforgiving.
Just look at the raw reactions pouring in across social media as frustrated fans witnessed those glaring command issues firsthand.
Decided to check out how Alek Manoah pitched today and almost spat out my water due to how shockingly bad it was
2.1 IP • 5 ER • 5 BBs • 3 Hits • 3 Ks
Dude might be genuinely cooked

It is completely fair to feel a sense of dread when you see a former dominant All-Star looking so completely lost.
The 28-year-old big righty is clearly battling some serious mechanical demons right now. He desperately needs a hard reset.
Let us not forget that releasing a guy with this pedigree before opening day would be rough but could definitely happen.
The Angels could be the perfect environment to fix him
We are all just praying he finds that swagger again, because baseball is infinitely better when he pitches with attitude.
Manoah (Drafted Round 1, 2019 by Toronto Blue Jays) still possesses the exact same raw physical tools that previously made him an absolute force.
Spring training is specifically designed for working through these massive mechanical overhauls without the intense pressure of a pennant race.
Getting lit up in March certainly hurts the ego, but it perfectly exposes the release point flaws the pitching staff needs to aggressively correct.
Los Angeles took a calculated, low-risk gamble by bringing him into camp. This inherently means the front office can afford to be highly patient.
Sometimes hitting absolute rock bottom on a Tuesday afternoon is the exact catalyst needed to strip away bad habits and start entirely fresh.
However, the issue here is that Manoah has been struggling for quite some time now which is why Toronto let him go.
Despite the overall chaos, he still managed to strike out three batters today. That proves the heavy stuff that used to freeze hitters still exists.
If the coaching staff can simplify his complicated delivery and get his head right, we could witness the ultimate major league comeback story.
The bullpen might have to carry the load early on, but discovering a viable starter down the stretch changes everything.
Do not write him off completely just yet. This beautiful sport always leaves room for a magical redemption arc when you least expect it but it is starting to look very unlikely.
