Former Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah signs new contract
Former Toronto Blue Jays right handed pitcher Alek Manoah signs surprising new deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
Manoah was claimed by the Braves at the end of the season who ended up non-tendering him prior to the deadline at the beginning of November.
Alek Manoah signs one year deal with the Angels
MLB insider Jeff Passan broke the news this evening that Manoah and the Angels have agreed to a one year deal worth $1.95 million.
The surprising part in all of this is that the deal is a fully guaranteed major league deal with the Angels.
Right-hander Alek Manoah and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a one-year, $1.95 million contract, a source tells ESPN. Manoah, 27, was non-tendered by Atlanta and lands with the Angels on a fully guaranteed big league deal.
Manoah has been coming back from Tommy John surgery over the last year and has yet to pitch in the MLB since late May of the 2024 season when he went down with a right elbow strain.
The Blue Jays had Manoah slowly ramping up towards the end of the season which many thought would result in him coming back to the majors for the playoffs but they ended up designating him for assignment which is when he was claimed by the Braves.
This is a very interesting case since Manoah has now been let go by two teams in the last year but it looks like the Angels are willing to risk it with hopes that he returns to the pitcher he once was.
Manoah will be joining his former Blue Jays teammate Yusei Kikuchi in Los Angeles.
