The Phillies ended up signing Romano to a one year deal this off-season worth $8.5 million after the Blue Jays decided to non-tender him which many insiders saw as a steal.

Romano has been off to a disaster of a start top the 2025 season as he currently has a 15.75 ERA in 4 innings pitched while also blowing a save on Opening Day against the Washington Nationals.
Last game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Phillies ended up taking him out of the game as he gave up three runs without getting a single hitter out which has resulted in the Phillies looking to different options for their go to closer.
In five appearances for the Phillies, Romano is holding a 15.75 earned run average through four innings pitched, giving up seven earned runs and six hits in the process. He got off to a rocky start in his first-ever game with the Phillies, blowing a save on March 27 in a season-opening contest against the Washington Nationals. -Laskaris
Since the season just began, the Phillies will likely give Romano another shot at being their closer if they see him start to get better innings from him but for the moment he looks quite far from that.
