Former Toronto Blue Jays fan favorite outfielder will unfortunately likely be forced into retirement after being DFA'd by the Texas Rangers this weekend.

Pillar is a legend in Toronto for being a hardnosed player that showed up every single day to play with no excuses, leaving it all out on the field which is why he was nicknamed Superman as there wasn't a single ball he thought he couldn't catch.

Former Blue Jays legend Kevin Pillas DFA'd by the Texas Rangers and likely facing retirement

The Rangers announced this weekend that they decided to DFA Kevin Pillar removing him from their 40 man roster which will now probably forced him to make a very tough decision.
This weekend, Pillar was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. That means he's off the 40-man roster. -Heyen

Pillar will now either be claimed or traded to another team or he will have to decide if he is willing to go down to Triple-A if he clears waivers, if not he will be released.
The next possible steps are that Pillar is traded, claimed off waivers, or clears waivers and either takes an assignment to Triple-A or asks for his unconditional release. -Heyen

There is a very good chance that if Pillar ends up clearing waivers and he will decide to call it a career since the chances of him getting another major league deal is very slim at his age and he was already debating retirement in the off-season.
If Pillar does decide to call it a career he was definitely a great ball players, dressing for a total of 8 teams throughout his career but being most remembered for his time in Toronto.
Pillar has also played for the Giants, Red Sox, Rockies, Mets, Dodgers, Braves, White Sox and Angels.

He's a lifetime .255 hitter, with defense definitely his calling card. -Heyen

Fans would love the Blue Jays to sign Pillar to give him one last chance but with their surplus of outfielders those chances are basically non-existent.
If this is the end of the ride, what a ride it has been for Pillar and he will always have a home in Toronto.
