Free agent Pete Alonso looks like he will not be returning to the New York Mets and will likely sign with the Toronto Blue Jays in which his longtime teammate Francisco Lindor spoke on the situation.
Francisco Lindor speaks on longtime Mets teammate Pete Alonso signing elsewhere
Lindor and Alonso have been teammates for quite sometime, ever since he was traded to the Mets and have becoming pretty close teammates over the years.
In a recent interview, Lindor was asked how he felt about the possibility of Alonso likely signing elsewhere this off-season in which he stated that his friend should do what is best for him and his family.
"Surprised? Well, I can't be surprised with somebody's decision, you know?" Lindor said. "I mean, it's his decision. So Pete should maximize it. He should make the best decision for him and his family." -Lindor
"Pete has been here since I've been here, he has been here before me. So yeah, it would be different if he's somewhere else. Yeah, it would be different for sure. But I think he should take his time. I think he should make the best decision for himself and not feel like he's rushed into a decision, and I'm sure he will," Lindor added.
Lindor would hate to see his friend leave as he knows he is a great player and would help the Mets but understands that he needs to do what is best for him and that he supports that.
Hopefully the right thing for Alonso's future is to sign with the Blue Jays which is what all fans in Toronto would love to see and although it seems to be heading in that direction fans are not convinced just yet.
Fans in Toronto have seen too many players that were suppose to sign head elsewhere this off-season which is why they no longer get their hopes up until a deal is officially announced which hopefully will be soon.
